Over the weekend I have been searching through Netflix’s many TV shows, and stumbled upon Nip/Tuck.
Now I remember watching this when it first aired in 2003, yes, it really was that long ago, I never got further than the first season, this was mainly down to the it moving from channel 4 to Sky, back then I didn’t have the luxury of these channels. Now with the ability to be able to stream almost any show, any where in the world, I thought I would revisit this popular show.
So about the show, Sean McNamara and Christian Troy are two plastic surgeons running a partnership in Miami, Florida with different issues to life. Sean is a conventional, family man who distances himself with work to avoid his dysfunctional home life which includes his emotionless wife Julia, his rebellious teenage son Matt and young daughter Annie. The more slick Christian is an arrogant, narcissistic, unethical, ladies man who worships alcohol, women, and money, and will do just about anything to get what he wants, including lying, cheating, stealing and blackmailing.
Each episode starts with both the surgeons asking the patients ‘Tell me what don’t you like about yourself’ and heavily features graphic, partial-depictions of the plastic surgeries of one or more patients which includes breast augmentation and exotic surgery, like vaginal rejuvenation procedures. Much of the series’ drama is derived from the tumultuous personal lives of its main characters (including the doctors’ loved ones).
Overall this show is intriguing, exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
